Welcoming One Another

Remembering Whose We Are
Leader: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.

Opening Prayer

Opening Song
"All Because Of Jesus"

Confession of Sins & Assurance of Forgiveness
Pastor:  "The Lord is compassionate and gracious
ALL:  slow to anger and abounding in love.
Pastor:  He will now always accuse,
ALL:  nor will He harbor His anger forever;
Pastor:  He does not treat us as our sins deserve
ALL:  or repay us according to our iniquities.
Pastor:  For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
ALL:  so great is His love for those who fear Him.
Pastor:  Let us then confess our sins to our gracious and merciful God.
All:  O most merciful God, since You have given Your only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy on us, and for His sake grant us forgiveness of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
Pastor:  God the Father sent Jesus into the world, not to accuse, but to bring forgiveness and to save.  In His mercy He also sent Jesus to the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.  As a called and ordained servant of the Word, I therefore assure you all your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  "As far as the east is from the west,
All:  so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Pastor:  As a father has compassion on His children,
ALL:  so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

First Reading
Genesis 50:15-21
15  When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, "What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?"
16  So they sent word to Joseph, saying, "Your father left these instructions before he died:
17  'This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.' Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father." When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
18  His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. "We are your slaves," they said.
19  But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
20  You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
21  So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.

Sermon Scripture Reading
Luke 6:36-42
36  "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37  Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
39  He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?
40  A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
41  Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
42  How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Sermon
"Gods High Standards for His Disciples!
Luke 6:36-42

What Disciple Living Looks Like:
Matthew 5:48: Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
II Corinthians 5:21: 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1. Be Full of Mercy!
I Peter 1:17-19: 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each persons work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
2. Live Generously!
Isaiah 65:6-7: 6 "See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps 7 both your sins and the sins of your ancestors, says the Lord. "Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills, I will measure into their laps the full payment for their former deeds.
3. Do Not Judge, but Forgive!
James 2:12-13: 12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
4. Confess Your Own Sin First!
I John 1:7-9: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

In Whom Do We Believe? The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.  From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Prayers of the Day

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.
